There is not enough information provided in your inquiry for us to provide proper guidance. If you can reply to a few questions, perhaps we can help. 1) Is your wife currently insured under an eisting health plan in your current state? 2) Is this current health plan through an employer? 3) Has she had continuous coverage for at least 18 months? Given the seriousness of your wife's medical condition, it is imperative that you are certain that a new health insurance plan will be available to you immediately upon your relocation and that no waiting periods apply to her pre-eisting medical condition. You do not mention what state you are moving from, but there is a good chance that your current health plan will not be portable to Massachusetts. The state of Massachusetts is one of the few states that offer guaranteed issue' health insurance on the individual market. This means that an insurance company can't deny your wife coverage, regardless of her health status. However, you want to avoid any lapse in coverage by making sure that you apply for coverage prior to relocating. This may be difficult if you have not yet established a residence in that state. It would be advisable to contact a couple of insurance carriers in Massachusetts and eplain your situation. You can start with Blue Cross Blue Shield at 800-262-BLUE.'
