Can I get a separate medical insurance for my unborn baby?

I am scheduled to give birth to my first child in three months. I learned that my medical insurance will only cover the first two months of my baby once he or she is born. Can I already get a separate medical insurance for my unborn baby?

Unfortunately, you cannot apply for a medical insurance for your baby before he or she is born. Your baby does not have the basic information nor documents that are required in the application - name, birth date, social security number, etc. Nevertheless, you can have several options in getting health insurance for your baby. You can add your unborn baby as a dependent in your current medical insurance. You can request the HR of your company for the required forms. When your child is born, you can prepare and submit the necessary documents. You might also eplore the possibility of changing your current medical insurance into a family plan when your baby is born. Another option is for you to get as much information as you can from health insurance companies as regards coverage and requirements. This will guide you in choosing the right health insurance company and plan for your child once he or she is born. You may also sign your child for Medicaid if you are within the low income requirement guidelines. Coverage under Medicaid is good until your child reaches 19 years old. You can inquire more of Medicaid requirements and options from your local job and family services. Answer by admin — May 25, 2009 @ 11:20 am
