One of your best options (which may not be the cheapest health insurance) is to take advantage of COBRA. This law allows you to continue your health insurance plan after leaving your previous employer. Under COBRA, you have the option to continue and enjoy the same benefits while you were still employed. However, because you are no longer part of the company from which you acquired your policy, you will have to pay the full cost of the monthly premium your employer previously paid. You also have the option to apply for Medicaid although there’s an income limit before you can qualify. Keep in mind that there’s also a long waiting period before you get approved. Medicaid might not be applicable in your case. Also, unless you are 65 years old or have a disability, you are still not qualified for Medicare. Since you need the health insurance coverage immediately, you can try applying for a short-term medical policy for catastrophic insurance plan at least. However, this plan may not cover any pre-eisting condition or even prescription drugs. If your main concern is your prescription drugs, then try searching online for companies that offer discount cards. These discount cards may help you in your medicine epenses, but you have to be careful. Some doctors or pharmacies may not accept these cards, so better check with them first before using the discount cards.
