College Health Insurance Plans Available for Students in New York…

What college health insurance plans are available in New York? I may need to buy one but can’t afford to do so. I’m a full-time college student who works part-time for three days a month, earning only $200 a week. What options do I have?

Even though you are a full-time student, there are still college health insurance plans available for you. One option is to stay as a dependent in your parents’ health insurance plans. Usually, insurance companies consider students as dependents of their parents’ health plans as long as they are studying full-time or until they reach 24 years old. Another option which you might want to check are the health insurance programs being offered in your school. Many schools in the US offer student health insurance plans. These plans pay for most student injuries and illnesses, and are considered affordable enough for college students. Check with your college to see if they have a sponsored student plan. You can also purchase student health insurance independently and there are several companies that offer this type of product A most affordable option for you are the free clinics that are located near your school or home. There are health clinics that offer cheap medical services to students. Check with the health department in your area as to where the nearest free clinic is. Your school may also have a clinic on campus. If you are already ill and need to see a doctor, but don’t have college health insurance yet, just make an appointment. Tell the doctor or his secretary that you will be paying for the consultation out-of-your-pocket. If you’re lucky, you can pay less than $100 for the consultation.
