If your parents got their Cigna health plans from their employers, then it is usually the employer who determines the maimum age limit of dependents who are full-time students. Some Cigna health plans usually cover full-time college students until they are 23-25 years old. If you’re still a dependent of your parents, their health plan may only cover you only until you are 19 years old. For full-time students, your parents, as the policy holder, need to provide proof that they are supporting your studies. Some eamples that you may provide the insurance company include a certification letter from the school, your class schedule, paid tuition bill, etc. Cigna may also request proof that you are still unmarried, and legally dependent on your parents. It might be best if you call Customer Service to verify the age limit of your Cigna health plan, and the reasons for not being able to continue on with the plan. In case you have passed the age limit for dependents, or cannot meet the requirements of full-time college students, you may opt to take on COBRA. Aside from Cigna health plans, you might want to consider other health plans that are offered through your school. These health plans cover various student injuries and illnesses, and are generally affordable than individual policies. Check your eligibility and the fee requirements for such plans. The fees that university-offered health plans are often minimal. Answer by Nancy -- June 16, 2009 @ 3:42 pm
