Not all insurance companies offering Individuals in Virginia require that an applicant has a social security number. However, they will require that you prove that you are a legal resident of the state and that you have maintained residency for a specific period of time. The length of time that you must prove residency will vary from one insurance company to another. We do not provide health insurance quotes, but you can contact an agent from our individual health insurance directory. Your son may be eligible for the Virginia's CHIP program, Family Access to Medical Insurance Security. This is a government sponsored health plan for families in lower income brackets. The restrictions on residency may be more lenient on these plans than on standard issue individual health plans, but you must also meet their income guidelines.
