You should receive a COBRA option to continue coverage under your partner’s health plan. The termination date of your standard coverage under his plan will depend on his termination agreement with this employer. Typically, your insurance will be in effect until the end of the month of termination. At that point, the employer and/or insurance company will have 15 days to inform your partner of his COBRA rights. Since you are an eligible dependent under his policy, you will also have the same COBRA rights. You will want to compare this with the Aetna option you have through UPS. Were you given a COBRA option with UPS? Are you still covered under the Aetna group health plan with UPS? The health benefits under the UPS pension plan may not be the same coverage you had as a full-time employee. This is definitely something you will want to consider. Since you have been covered by two health insurance plans, the coordination of benefits between the two have probably afforded you very comprehensive coverage. Since you are now being required to make premium payment, it may not be in your best interest to maintain two policies.
