How should I deal with the insurance company while my wife is pregnant?

I need to know how I should deal with medical insurance companies from whom my pregnant wife and I purchased our health insurance plans. I'm worried some problems with hospital bills and coverage might come up when she finally delivers the baby a few months from now.

It's good that you're already asking questions on how to deal with medical insurance companies this early. It will be very bothersome if you don't know much about how your insurance plans work when it's time for your wife's delivery. Ideally, it would be good to work with your medical insurance companies instead of working against them. You should check with your insurance providers if you've filled out the necessary forms completely with accurate information. Sometimes, missing details, forms filled out incorrectly, or an undisclosed pre-eisting condition could be cause for cancellation of your insurance policies. You should also recheck the coverage of your health insurance plans. Find out what treatments are covered and which ones aren't. You should also verify with the insurance company if preapproval is necessary for epensive treatments. You might need to provide the company with a written letter from your doctor eplaining that such treatments are necessary. You should also check which medical services are covered by state mandate. Your insurance company is required to cover such services regardless of the company's policy. You should also keep proofs of all transactions between you and the medical insurance companies. As much as possible, you should conduct all communications with the insurance carriers in writing and read the fine print of your health insurance policies. - June 26, 2009 @ 2:01 pm
