There are many factors to consider when getting a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan. Because you are looking specifically for a plan with good medicine coverage, you have to consider what kinds of medicine you need and if this new plan will cover those prescription drugs. Medicare has 12 standardized Medicare supplement insurance plans called Medigap policies. Supplements pay for other health care costs not covered by the original Medicare health insurance plans which are usually Medicare Part A and B. Each plan is the same across states although others may have additional benefits. It’s the premium for each plan that will be different. Keep in mind that a Medigap plan is labeled as Medicare Supplement Insurance in the plan. Among the other original Medicare plans, there is Part D which is an outpatient prescription drug coverage. In many cases, plan holders of Part A and/or Part B also purchase Part D to complement their need for prescriptions. Part D is optional but is recommended especially for those who take prescription drugs regularly. Part D is also designed based on a person’s medicine needs. You can also check if you have a group called Area Agency on Aging in your state. The people behind this group can provide you with information on Medicare and health care insurance concerns. The group’s work covers talking to the elderly about their concerns so most of them may know more about Medicare Supplement Insurance. -- June 19.2009 @ 11:41 am
