adultBasic is essentially a Pennsylvania health insurance program with limited benefits for the state's residents who fall into the lower income groups. The health program was initiated in 2002. Individuals and families whose income is below the prescribed level can get limited benefits health plans at very little cost. People who qualify for this Pennsylvania health insurance program are uninsured adults (aged 19 to 64) who meet eligibility guidelines, families that fall within adultBasic family size and income guidelines, individuals who do not have private health insurance, people who are not eligible for or covered by Medicare and Medicaid, and individuals who have resided in Pennsylvania 90 days prior to enrollment. This limited benefits health insurance program provides comprehensive major medical coverage and covers against pre-eisting conditions. Some of the benefits covered by the plan for no additional cost include hospitalization (for an unlimited time), physician services (primary care and specialist), maternity care, emergency services, diagnostic testing (laboratory tests and the like), and rehabilitation and skilled care (in lieu of etended hospitalization). adultBasic is very convenient for residents who don't have private Pennsylvania health insurance plans. Although participants are still required to pay a monthly premium of $35 per person, it's still very affordable compared to most health insurance policies from private insurance companies. - June 26, 2009 @ 10:03 am
