Most health plans that cover maternity will have at least a 1 year waiting period from start date to date of conception. Additionally, most applications for health insurance will specifically ask you if you are planning a surrogacy. It might be tough for them to prove, but if they could, it would invalidate your coverage and the insurance company would not be liable for paying maternity costs. We certainly would not recommend applying for insurance without disclosing your intent. There are some programs out there that offer limited coverage and discount plans for pregnant women that might be able to better guide you. One is MaternityCard and the other is Maternity Advantage. We are not associated with these companies, but have heard them mentioned throughout our forum. Use your own judgment in reviewing what they offer. Trying to secure and apply for health insurance when you are planning a surrogacy is just as challenging as it would be if you were already pregnant. The other option is to secure employment that offers health insurance with maternity benefits. — June 6, 2009 @ 11:14 am
