Everything that you will put in the coverage of health care plans depends largely on your need and how are you willing to pay. Your choice of company will depend on its name, stability, and proven track record. Because age is one of the determining factors in premium payment, narrow down your options on your income bracket. Some of the health care plans or products currently offered by several companies take into consideration your capacity to pay the premium and out-of-pocket epenses. There are health care plans currently offered by several companies: Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), and Point of Service Plans. These require monthly premium. You can also look at how your lifestyle can complement with the health care plan of your choice. Ask if your doctor is a member of a particular HMO or PPO so you don’t have to switch physicians. You can also check if the hospital nearest you or the one you trust the most is listed in the HMO. If you are young, healthy, and rarely sees a doctor, you may look at health care plans that cover only major medical concerns such as surgeries, accidents, or injuries. If you will need constant medical care, opt for a coverage that includes doctor and hospital visits, prescription and preventative medicines, obstetrics, psychiatry, and long-term care. Make sure to write down all these concerns because it would be easier to compare later on. Study carefully how much you can afford to pay on the premium and deductibles or the out-of-pocket epenses before you can use the insurance. Some companies may have high deductible health care plans which can save you on premium payments. Also, keep in mind if you have enough to pay for co-pay or co-insurance at the time of service. You can also look at other health care supplemental plans like the Fleible Spending Accounts, Health Savings Accounts, and Health Reimbursement Accounts. It is important to concentrate on what you need only. There may be discount offers that are not really discounts. A discount may sound enticing but if you don’t need it, there is no use for it. When you have listed everything you need and want, compare the different companies and their health care plans. Study the terms and payment. If you can pay within a shorter period how much would you be able to save? Or if you can only pay a longer number of years, see what other benefits you can get. It will help you decide what health care plans to get if from the start you already know your health and financial requirements. - June 19, 2009 @ 4:06 pm
