In response to your question about the coverage in health insurance in California, it should be noted that generally the law says that for you to be covered in your boyfriend’s insurance you should be married. Otherwise, only his child is eligible for coverage once the child is born. Health insurance in California usually doesn’t recognize Common Law Marriage, making only the legal wife and children qualify for the coverage. This doesn’t have anything to do with you having a Certificate of Deposit (CD). Health insurance is based on a regular income. A CD cannot be considered as an income but an asset. However, with your present status as an unemployed, pregnant woman, with no definite source of income, you may qualify for state sponsored health insurance in California as well as with other state provided medical services (such as Planned Parenthood and Medi-Cal). Just walk in to any of these clinics and discuss your situation. You may even consider other state’s social services out there like California’s WIC for you and your child’s nourishment. Only make sure that the OB-Gyne you’ll go to accepts state insurance. - June 19, 2009 @ 6:55 pm
