when approved for Medicare is there a time limit of getting supplement ins

Awarded Medicare Part A on Dec 1,2011 was told you only have 3 months to apply for a supplemental insurance , if supplement is not acquired within the 3 month period you can NEVER get supplemental policy.....True or false
